Message privately

Your privacy matters most. Messages in iman are encrypted in transit and at rest, and secret chats are end-to-end encrypted, so only you and your recipient can read them — not even iman. Other chats, groups, channels and most calls are encrypted in transit but are not end-to-end encrypted.

Everything you share is protected by iman's privacy settings

End-to-end encryption

Messages, photos and videos in secret chats (web and Android) are end-to-end encrypted: decryption requires a key that only you and your recipient have. Other chats, groups, channels and most calls are encrypted in transit but are not end-to-end encrypted.

Additional protection

Beyond end-to-end encryption, iman provides additional ways to protect the privacy of all your conversations.

Privacy settings control

In privacy settings, you can choose what you share, how your information appears online, and who can contact you.

Locked chats

Protect your most personal chats with a password to ensure their privacy. Locked chats are stored in a separate folder and don't appear in the general list. They can't be opened by someone else using your phone.

What is end-to-end encryption?

End-to-end encryption means that only the two people in a chat can read its messages: they are encrypted on the sender's device and decrypted on the recipient's device. In iman it applies to secret chats (one-to-one, in the web and Android apps). Regular chats, groups, channels and most calls are encrypted in transit and at rest but are not end-to-end encrypted, so iman can technically read them.

What is two-step verification?

Two-step verification adds a secret PIN that you set yourself and never share with anyone. It protects your account against theft even if someone learns your verification code.

Is communication in iman safe and private?

Messages in iman are encrypted in transit and at rest. Secret chats are end-to-end encrypted, so only you and your recipient can read them. Other chats, groups, channels and most calls are not end-to-end encrypted. No independent security audit has been published yet; the security whitepaper explains the details and the limits.
